About Go Universe Go

Last updated:

A free educational 3D space game that lets kids launch rockets, explore planets, and discover amazing facts about our solar system. Our goal is to make learning about space science fun, interactive, and accessible for every child.

How It Works

Players start on Earth and blast off into space to visit every planet in the solar system, plus the Sun. Each destination features real NASA facts and images, turning gameplay into a hands-on science lesson. No downloads, accounts, or purchases required.

The game teaches kids about planetary science through exploration rather than flashcards. As players navigate between worlds, they encounter over 380 verified space facts covering topics like planetary atmospheres, surface conditions, moons, NASA missions, black holes, pulsars, and record-breaking discoveries. Each planet has a unique 3D surface environment with accurate visual details.

The Creators

Go Universe Go was created by Chelsea and Alex, parents who wanted to make learning about space fun and accessible for kids. Alex is a software engineer who builds the game, and Chelsea is an educator who writes and reviews the content for age-appropriate language and accuracy.

The idea started as a homeschool project to help their own children learn about the planets. What began as a simple experiment quickly grew when they saw how engaged their kids became with interactive space exploration compared to traditional worksheets and videos. Their kids — along with friends and classmates who tested early versions — shaped the game's design, pacing, and difficulty through months of hands-on feedback.

Over several months of development, the project evolved into a full 3D experience featuring all eight planets, the Sun, and 10 deep-space destinations including black holes, pulsars, and nebulae, with over 380 verified space facts sourced from NASA and other scientific institutions. Every fact is reviewed for accuracy against current NASA data and written in language that kids ages 5-12 can understand and enjoy.

Our Sources

All facts are sourced from NASA Solar System Exploration and verified for accuracy. We cross-reference individual planet pages, NASA mission updates, and the NASA Image and Video Library to ensure every claim is current and correct. Facts are reviewed periodically against the latest NASA data as new discoveries are made.

Planet images within the game come from NASA's public image galleries and are used in accordance with NASA's media usage guidelines.

3D planet textures are sourced from the Solar-System-3D project by N3rson, which provides high-quality planetary texture maps originally derived from NASA imagery.

Technology

Built with vanilla JavaScript and Three.js for 3D graphics, running entirely in your browser using WebGL. Works on desktop, tablet, and mobile with a modern browser.
